VIETNAM IMPORTED 9.3 MILLION TONS OF STEEL FROM JANUARY TO AUGUST, DOWN 11% YEAR-ON-YEAR

Vietnam Iron and Steel Association said on Wednesday that thecumulative imports of Vietnamese steel products in the first eight months ofthis year reached 9.3 million tons, down 11% year-on-year; the total amounttotaled 6.7 billion US dollars, up 10.2% year-on-year.


In the same period, the import of basic metals such ascopper, aluminum and zinc in Vietnam was 1.6 million tons, and the import valuewas US$5.3 billion, up 34.7% and 35.9% respectively.


According to Vietnam Customs data, Vietnam’s steel importslast year were 15 million tons, and the import value was 9 billion US dollars.Among them, steel products imported from China amounted to 7 million tons,amounting to 4.1 billion US dollars. The Vietnamese steel suppliers behindChina are Japan and South Korea.
